Nirmal Purja is a former Gurkha and SBS operator. On the morning of may 24th he summited Makalu, the 5th highest mountain in the world. It sits on the border between Nepal and Tibet and is notorious for its steep pitches and knife-edged ridges that are completely open to the elements.

What makes this even more incredible is that the day before achieving this feat he conquered Everest, and the day before that he was on top of Lhotse. In the preceding four weeks he’s climbed Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and Kanchenjunga, rescuing stricken climbers on two separate occasions along the way.

Nir has a goal, it is to climb all of the world’s fourteen 8,000+ meter summits.

This is such a phenomenal undertaking that the current world record is eight years; Nims intends to do it in only seven months.
